What is #Giving Tuesday?

Oct 29, 2016

We have a day to give thanks.  We have three for finding deals. Now, we have one to give back.  #GivingTuesday is a global movement to harness generosity and transform how people think about the holiday season.  Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday, which is the traditional kickoff to the shopping season, #GivingTuesday inspires people to take action to improve their local communities.

The most meaningful work we can do is to show our children that collectively, we can make a difference and build a better community.  Schools are the linchpin of every community and need us now more than ever. That is why we are asking every individual and business to help us celebrate local educators by investing in all 21 of our local schools. Make a tax deductible donation to the foundation on November 29, 2016 and, in the spirit of the season, share why you gave by snapping an “unselfie” photo or video using #HSSFunselfie.

Consider this, the 2014 #GivingTuesday campaign raised nearly $46 million worldwide and was an online phenomenon racking up billions of fans and trending on social media for more than 11 hours.  How different would our schools look if we were able to direct that energy toward teachers and classrooms?
