PastaBowl food drive starts this week

Aug 27, 2018

The annual Mudsock Football game on September 7th between Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School is one of the most anticipated events each year.  The Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation is selling a limited number of VIP tickets to the game.

Another unique element of the Mudsock football game is fans get to see the culmination of the annual PastaBowl. This yearly food drive supports local food pantries and families in need within Hamilton County. “The PastaBowl provides students with an opportunity to give back by donating pasta at their school and helping stock area food banks while raising awareness about food insecurities. Last year over 14,000 pounds of pasta was donated,” said long-time organizer and HSE School Board member John Delucia.

In 2017, the pasta collected benefited 46 local food banks and organizations. This year, organizers are hoping to increase the average amount per school as it is estimated that 1 in 7 HSE students struggle with hunger. The pasta is a core staple for area food banks and comes at an essential time during the pre-holiday months when donations are often critically low.

Meijer is again supporting the PastaBowl as the title sponsor of this effort. The store at 8375 E. 96th Street is open 24 hours a day and will have its shelves stocked with pasta. A food drive of this magnitude would not be possible without an army of volunteers, donors, and supporters that include Meijer, ProShred, Harvest Food Bank, Citizens State Bank, the Foundation and all 21 HSE Schools.

Collections will take place at all 21 HSE Schools starting this week, and will continue through Monday, September 10th (immediately following the annual Mudsock football game on September 7th).

Before leaving for school this week and next make sure to grab pasta to help fill the bowl!
